Age spots are one or more areas of the skin that have been affected by an overproduction of melanin.
They most often appear on parts of the body exposed to the sun such as the face, neck, décolleté, hands, legs, or back.
Other types of spots like freckles occur due to an accumulation of melanosomes in the skin cells and angiomas.
Prolonged exposure to the sun is one of the major causes of the appearance of brown spots. Also called lentigo actinic, these spots are the result of the action of melanocytes (cells that create melanin) that come in contact with the sun.
Skin ageing also causes the formation of senile lentigo. These brown spots develop with age.
Post-inflammatory spots may form in individuals who have had acne. These appear on the skin as a consequence of scars and inflammation caused by this skin disease.
During pregnancy, some women develop melasma, or pregnancy mask. This type of brown spots is due to hormonal disorders. You can exfoliate once or twice a week to contribute to cell renewal to improve this concern.
The most important thing is not to expose yourself to the sun for long periods of time without appropriate protection.
There are medical methods to make brown spots disappear (laser, cryotherapy, liquid nitrogen). These operations must be carried out in winter and under the supervision of a health professional (dermatologist or doctor). We've used it in a serum from the Lab range at a very high concentration.
Glycolic acid (AHA) and salicylic acid (BHA) are two active ingredients that eliminate dead cells. They help the skin to regenerate more quickly. They're not recommended for very sensitive skin. After use, we recommend that you follow up with a moisturiser.
